Leaf Print Pendant
£52 - 3½ hours
Make a beautiful leaf print pendant using the fantastic jewellery making technique of ‘roller printing’. Using your choice of copper or 925 (sterling) silver*, you'll use a jeweller's rolling mill to press the pattern of a skeleton leaf on to the metal, then use a jewellers saw to ‘pierce’ (cut) out the shape of your pendant. After soldering on a sterling silver bail, you'll shape and finish your pendant with your own unique flourish.
At the end of the class you'll wear your pendant with pride on a silver-plated chain.
Suitable for beginners with no previous jewellery making experience, you'll be guided through every step of the journey by Jenny, a jeweller and metalsmith with 20 years’ experience.
Please note that participants will need a reasonable amount of arm and hand strength.
The class takes approximately 3 - 3½ hours. The price includes materials*, instruction and (of course) tea and biscuits!
*Materials included in the cost are for a copper pendant, there is a small additional charge to use sterling silver.
FAQs
Who is the class for?
This class is designed for beginners who would like to learn basic silver jewellery making techniques, and make their very own sterling silver ring. You will need a reasonable amount of hand and arm strength. Sorry, children under 16 are not permitted.
What's involved?
In this class you'll learn some of the basic techniques used in traditional jewellery making and silversmithing. Jenny will guide you every step of the way to creating your pendant, using the traditional techniques of roller printing, saw piercing, soldering, oxidising, and metal forming.
What's included?
The price includes the materials you need to make a copper pendant. You're welcome to upgrade to sterling silver for a small additional cost (which may fluctuate depending on the current price of silver). You can choose to pay the additional on the day, or if you prefer you can pay in advance at the time of booking.
The use of any necessary tools, a silver-plated chain, full instruction from Jenny, and light refreshments are all included in the price.
What are the design options?
When you arrive at your class, you'll be given the choice of different leaves to press into your metal. You'll get to pierce (cut) the metal into your preferred shape and use pliers to form the pendant and bail into your own unique design.
You'll have the option to add a black oxide to your pendant, which can help to bring out the beautiful impression of the leaf. There are many possible combinations, and Jenny will guide you through every step to ensure you make a pendant to be proud of!
Please note that there will be a limited stock of materials, if you have any specific requirements, please contact us in advance to make sure your requirement can be accommodated.
How long will the class last?
The class will last approximately 3-3½ hours. It’s best to allow a little extra time as classes can sometimes over-run depending on group sizes. Smaller groups may finish earlier.
Where is the class held?
Classes are held in The Little Craftery in Field Row, Worthing, which is designed to be a functional, comfortable workspace for up to 4 participants. The shop will be closed to the public during your class, so you don’t need to worry about interruptions. If you have any special access requirements, please contact Wendy at The Little Craftery before you book to discuss, and to find out if access is available for you.
Do we need to book?
Yes, please do book in advance, as there are a limited number of places on each class (currently 4 people per workshop), and we wouldn’t want you to be disappointed! We require full payment in advance in order to secure your booking. Online payments will be taken securely by either Square or Paypal. If you’d rather not book online, you can book in person at The Little Craftery.
When I try to book, it says "Online scheduling is not currently available, Please contact the business directly".
This doesn't mean it's not working, it just means there are no available dates. There's no need to contact us, just join the waiting list and we'll let you know when we have new dates.
It's a default message on our booking system that we don't have the power to change, it's a bit confusing, sorry about that!
Do I need to bring anything?
All your materials and light refreshments are supplied, but not lunch.
It is quite fine work, so if you use reading glasses or similar it may be useful to bring those with you.
What should I wear?
For safety reasons, you will be required to wear enclosed shoes.
Aprons will be provided, but it is still recommended to wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.
When are the classes?
All the classes on our site are run on demand, except our silver jewellery classes. Jenny (the tutor) can only come in every now and then, so dates are set to her schedule. Classes are almost always on a Saturday, roughly every 6 weeks or so. This does mean that demand is high for her classes! We have a mailing list that you can sign up to (above), and whenever we publish a new date, everyone on the list will be notified first. From there, it's first-come, first-served. Quite often places sell out within minutes of publishing, so get in quick!
Can I set a new date or book a private class?
These silver jewellery classes by Jenny are the only classes on our books that we can't run on demand; as we're limited to when Jenny (the tutor) is able to take time out of her busy schedule to come along to teach. We can only set specific dates every now and then, and unfortunately not on request. If there are no dates available that you can do, we recommend you sign up to the email list above, and you'll be the first to know when we set a new one.
Can I buy a gift voucher for this class?
No. Because of the high demand for this class, we can't guarantee that you'll be able to get a place within the expiry date of the voucher (though expiry dates can always be extended on request).
Our generic monetary value vouchers can be used for this and any other classes on our books, but we can't guarantee that you'll get a place on the ring making class, so it may have to be used for something else.
What's the cancellation policy?
If you are unable to attend your class, please let us know as soon as possible.
If you cancel more than 7 days in advance of the class - You'll be eligible for a full refund or a reschedule, as you prefer.
If you cancel within 7 days of the class (up to 24 hours before the class) - you're not eligible for a refund, but you can reschedule.
If you cancel within 24 hours of the class - you're not eligible for a refund or a reschedule.
Failure to show up for your class will not be eligible for a refund or reschedule.
In any circumstance where a class is cancelled by The Little Craftery, we will attempt to contact you in advance as soon as possible to either reschedule or offer a full refund, as you prefer.
